Driving Sustainable Construction with the Covenant Timber MRA
The Amsterdam Metropolitan Region (MRA) is tackling a major housing challenge while working to reduce CO2 and nitrogen emissions. Timber construction has emerged as a game-changing solution, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional methods. In 2021, MRA partnered with public entities, academic institutions, and private organizations to create the Covenant Timber Construction.
The goal: by 2025, at least 20% of all new residential buildings should be built with timber and biobased materials. Signed by 140 organizations, this bold initiative is set to transform the construction and real estate sectors. Our collaboration with MRA began at the start of this journey. We helped shape the initiative by creating presentations, contributing to the Covenant and Timber Action Plan 2021-2025, and designing the MRA Houtbouw logo, all while supporting their mission of driving sustainability and innovation.
Visualizing Impact: The Houtbouw Map
In 2024, MRA Houtbouw asked us to create a visual representation of their timber construction projects across the region. We designed a life-sized map showcasing timber projects throughout the MRA, highlighting both completed and ongoing developments.
To make the map stand out, we printed it on thick, recycled paper to give it a tactile, premium feel—something people would want to display proudly. This project reflects our long-standing partnership with MRA Houtbouw and our shared commitment to sustainability. As timber construction gains momentum, we are proud to help MRA showcase their progress and inspire future innovation in the industry.
